Manuel Jagan 4th Period Pollution in China: Industrialization and the overall implementation of manufacturing have impacted different countries in different ways. We see that industrialization has caused lots of problems in China’s large cities resulting in horrible living conditions that cause the population to be unhappy in general. The first problem that we have is how the increased industrialization has displaced many citizens. There are many citizens that have moved to distant cities and towns but still work in polluted cities. This results in problems for everyone. By creating urban living cities there is a further decrease of the natural vegetation in China which can cause problems as it is quickly being cleared to make space for homes, apartments, and the amenities that are needed for the new residents. Furthermore, as the number of residents far away increases, the number of automotive vehicles that are needed further increase as well. This increase ...

by Abby Hill One of my fondest memories from my childhood was a trip to SeaWorld. I can vividly remember leaving my family behind in a trail of dust as I weaseled my way through masses of people for the opportunity to sit in the “splash zone” at the Shamu show. I was fascinated as I watched various marine animals jump from the water and perform tricks. I can also remember pressing my tiny body against the barrier of a huge, open tank. I held a tiny fish in my hand as I waited anxiously for a dolphin to come and take it from me. It was amazing, or so I thought. At the same time I was grinning at SeaWorld, thousands of miles away Ric O’Barry had a different view. In the 1960’s, O’Barry captured and trained many dolphins, including the five that starred in the popular TV show Flipper . He worked in the captive dolphin industry for ten years until Kathy, one of the dolphins that played Flipper, died in his arms, and he realized that training dolphins to do tricks was wr...

Vyom Gupta Removing CO2 From the Atmosphere The entrapment of greenhouse gases plays a big part in global warming and Carbon Dioxide as at the forefront of this problem. As the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increases, the more we expedite the global warming process. In order to delay the effects of carbon dioxide, we need to find temporary solutions to decrease the amount of Carbon in the atmosphere. In the meantime, the first solution is (used by Climeowrks and Global Thermostat) using direct air capture devices and having them pull out CO2 from the air by sucking in lots of air and then through a series of chemical reactions remove the CO2 and re-releasing the air. Because CO2 is only found in one of 2,500 molecules, large volumes are going to be needed to efficiently remove the carbon. The main idea an is industrial cooling tower containing a liquid hydroxide solution which will capture CO₂ and convert it into carbonate. The carb...

Alex Gortz Over the course of this blog, we will most likely talk a lot about climate change and global emissions. But what can we do about this problem and how can we stop this ever-evolving crisis? This has obviously been discussed by various politicians on the state, federal, and international stage and one of their most promising, if controversial, plans is the notorious cap and trade system. The cap and trade system strives to lower global and regional carbon emissions across the board while also providing positive economic benefits. The “cap” of the system is ever decreasing limits on the amount of carbon emissions that are produced by companies. While the “trade” portion of the system allows companies to buy and sell their caps based on their need for emissions. The targeted corporations are often involved in the manufacturing, agriculture, and mining sector. Those corporations have alrea...
